One company,
four products.

I started roasting the way most people do: a small roaster, a few sacks of green coffee, and a real interest in the people who had grown it. The interest was easy. Buying from them was not. Importers wanted a full container, exporters wanted a company they knew, and the paperwork alone took longer than the roasting. So I bought from the same three importers everyone else bought from, and the farmers I actually cared about stayed a story on the bag.

That is the problem we set out to fix. Not with a manifesto, but with tools.

Our why is simple: every roaster, whatever their size, should have the tools to scale their impact in the countries where coffee grows. Ten bags should travel at container freight. A cooperative should be able to list its own lots and be paid on time. A roastery of two people should be able to finance a harvest, sell a kettle without holding stock, and answer a customer at night without a night shift. Those are the four things smoasters does, and they only make sense together.

We are a small team in Zurich, Heerlen and Aachen, with friends at origin. We roast, we cup, we pack, we ship. If something on this site does not hold up in your roastery, tell me. That is how it gets better.
