What is WEEE and who is responsible?
WEEE concerns electrical and electronic equipment and the collection and treatment of that equipment once it becomes waste.
The exact responsibilities depend on:
- the product
- the country
- the distribution model
- the company's role in the supply chain
Depending on national law, manufacturers, importers, distributors and sellers can have obligations. These may include:
- registration
- reporting quantities placed on the market
- financing or organising recycling
- product marking
- consumer take-back obligations
smoasters provides available manufacturer and registration information.
However, roasters should not assume that purchasing products through smoasters automatically removes every WEEE obligation that may apply to them as retailers in every European country. Consumer take-back obligations can in particular apply to distributors.
